Ear wax removal
Micro-suction under an ENT graded microscope
Micro-suction is a wax removal technique using a binocular operating microscope,
which gives depth perception and magnification to look straight into the ear canal,
and a very fine sterile suction device at low pressure to remove the wax.
Occasionally other instruments are needed to remove hard wax.
No water, no syringing, and nothing done blind. If your ear is blocked before a
flight, a concert or a hearing test, same-day appointments are available Monday to
Saturday.

Hearing test
Hearing Health Check
Baseline hearing thresholds and a middle ear pressure test, 40 minutes. The check
most people should have annually, in the same way they have their eyes and their teeth
looked at, rather than waiting until something has gone wrong.

Diagnostic assessment
Comprehensive Listening Assessment
Diagnostic hearing assessment, middle ear evaluation and a speech discrimination in
noise test, 90 minutes. For the far more common complaint than deafness: hearing that
people are speaking, and not being able to follow them in a group or a noisy room.

Tinnitus
Tinnitus assessment and management
A cure for tinnitus has not been found. What can be done is to identify and quantify
the symptom, establish its clinical type, and choose the right management for it.
Tinnitus is usually multi-factorial, and around 80% of people reporting it have some
degree of hearing impairment, which is why the assessment starts with a complete
listening assessment.

Mindfulness Based Tinnitus Intervention (MBTI™)
A four-week programme based on the original mindfulness-based stress reduction
(MBSR™) programme developed at the University of Massachusetts Medical School's Oasis
Institute for Mindfulness by Jon Kabat-Zinn, combined with clinical audiology by the
clinic's Director.

Hearing technology
Hearing aids, fitted and verified
Packages of two or three years of coverage, customised to your clinical presentation,
your lifestyle and the technology you actually need. Fitting is verified with real ear
measurement and speech mapping, so what the aid does in your ear is measured rather
than assumed. Oticon, Phonak, Starkey and Widex are fitted.

Tinnitus-specific technology
Because most people reporting tinnitus also have some hearing loss, tinnitus-specific
hearing technology can help to relieve the symptom. Recommended only after the
assessment, never before it.
